It was in 2001 when Otari Kobalia decided to bring the taste of authentic European breads and patisseries from his hometown in Georgia to Vancouver. After all, how could he not? It was “in” him to bring. You see, “Kobalia,” Otari’s last name, means “bread” in one of the Georgian dialects. Dating back centuries, Otari’s ancestors were known for baking and supplying their local villages with artisan breads.
Known for their intense, earthy flavors, crunchy crusts and complex texture, European breads are baked in over 25 varieties at the Fraser Street bakery and then delivered to more than 35 of British Columbia’s best markets and finest restaurants. Our signature Georgian Baguettes, Ukrainian loafs, challas and hand-made baklavas have become a part of Vancouver’s mix of cultural traditions.
Today, European Breads Bakery proudly continues using the finest ingredients and methods of traditional artisan baking to bring you the best breads and pastries.
I love a good loaf of bread and love a good bakery even more. I love that their recipes are traditional european recipes and that the loaves are made by hand using organic ingredients. I also really like their website :) Great art and photos!!

There is nothing like walking into a real bakery and breathing in that scent of fresh bread. Although I enjoy the occasional sweet treat, I am actually more earthy in my loved of baked goods and leann towards a good hearty loaf of grainy bread over something iced any day. This week I bought a loaf called Pharoah's kamut.

It seemed like a great tie into our studies of ancient egypt. Turns out it is also yummy! And it comes in biodegradeable packaging!
I am anxiously awaiting our unit on Greece so that I can order the Georgian Baklava
