Simple Gratitude

I am always overwhelmed at Easter by the feeling that I am most certainly not worthy of the gift that has been given to me. This year was particularly emotional for me as I have seen one of my prayers answered. Our prayers are always heard but sometimes what we "want" is not in the cards. This year I felt so grateful that what I had prayed for all of these years was part of God's plan for our family. It made the celebration so much more.

We had a small easter egg hunt using our resurrection eggs. This year was the first year that Gorilla really understood the resurrection egg symbols and it was nice to see him reflecting on each of them. Dinner was delicious but casual. I made Martha's glazed ham with scalloped potatoes (for my husband) and broccoli and cauliflower drizzled with browned butter, and a citrus salad. My dad brought over Tantulus Riesling and it was a nice match. For dessert we made a Lemon Meringue cake and it was amazing. The entire cake was iced in a swiss meringue icing and then baked in the oven. The meringue went crunchy and brown and had that lovely, chewy texture of a meringue, while inside was three layers of cake with yummy lemon curd in between. It was a hit with the crowd, so much so that later in the evening (or morning as it was) we all had seconds. A round of espresso followed by dessert wine turned us into social adults and the evening stretched on with the kids watching 2 movies (!!) while the adults started a rousing game of the Settlers of Catan with only a brief pause in between to get the kids into pj's and tucked into bed. At 2:15, after having my bahooky whipped 3x we decided to call it a night (morning?) and headed to bed. Unfortunately the boys, excited about having had a sleepover, decided to wake at 6:45!! Eventually morning could not be avoided and with the help of a strong latte, we had pancakes and sausages for breakfast. Five mussy heads with excited smiles sat around the island eating pancakes and planning "pjammy" day with great enthusiasm.

I feel very loved, very fortunate and very, very blessed this Easter. Sometimes joy is simply found in the little events: the sound of your children laughing with pure joy, mussy heads smiling with excitement in the morning and seeing someone you love coming to know Jesus.

Beautiful.

Oh - and D. will have a conniption (sp?) when he finds out that you guys play settlers of Catan, and we've only now discovered this. He LOVES that game :-) We have it but don't often have people to play it with.

we were catan virgins last night... it was our first time. Great game though. Dh and I might buy one of the companion packs so then when we all get together we can play the even more complex version. You really must meet Double double, you two would get along very well!
